Substitute your medication in case of a supplier inventory shortage

What it means for you—If the medication prescribed to you is temporarily unavailable, your pharmacist can replace it with a medication in the same category.

How it works

  • The pharmacist will meet with you to assess your needs.
  • If necessary, the pharmacist will identify a substitute.
  • The pharmacist will decide whether or not to substitute your medication depending on your condition.

If the pharmacist decides to substitute your medication

He/she will

  • prepare a new prescription.
  • inform your treating physician.
  • do a follow-up with you.
  • check with the supplier of the original medication and will give it to you as soon as it is available.

If the pharmacist decides not to substitute your medication

  • He/she can recommend alternatives and/or direct you to the appropriate resource.
