Extend your doctor's prescription

What it means for you—As your health condition may change, a medical follow-up is essential. Your pharmacist can extend some medical prescriptions for a limited duration to avoid interrupting your treatment before your next doctor's appointment.

How it works

  • The pharmacist will meet with you to assess the effectiveness of your medication and the possible side effects.
  • The pharmacist will assess with you the situation and risks related to the interruption or extension of your treatment.
  • Following this consultation, the pharmacist will decide whether or not to extend your prescription.
  • The pharmacist will document the decision.

If the pharmacist decides to extend the prescription

He/she will

  • prepare a new prescription.
  • inform your treating physician.
  • do a follow-up with you.

If the pharmacist decides not to extend the prescription

  • He/she can recommend alternatives and/or direct you to the appropriate resource.

Some categories of medications are excluded.
