Skin Care

Skin is the body’s largest organ. Its main purpose is to protect the organism against external contaminants and bacteria... which is why it’s crucial to treat it well. Many people neglect their skin or don’t know how to treat it properly. Good skin care and a radiant complexion go hand in hand, so it’s important to have a daily beauty routine that is appropriate to your age and skin type.

7 tips for gorgeous skin from head to toe

Although your face needs protection against everyday irritants, it’s not the only part of you that requires special care. Every inch of your body needs daily pampering to prevent dryness, irritation and imperfections. Here are our 7 top tips for head-to-toe gorgeous skin.

1

Cleanse thoroughly morning and night.

For skin to be an effective protector, it’s important to remove the impurities found at its surface, such as sebum, dirt, toxins, sweat and makeup. It’s best to use a gentle cleanser, such as foaming gel or micellar water, both morning and night. To awaken skin, add alcohol and fragrance free toner just after cleansing.

Think twice before skipping makeup remover, as doing so can give your skin a grey tone and increase the appearance of wrinkles and imperfections. If you’re short on time, opt for makeup remover wipes.

2

Use day cream.

Day cream is an essential product. In addition to its moisturizing properties, it helps renew skin cells and restores skin’s protective film. It also forms a barrier that blocks outside irritants all day long.

Be sure to choose a day cream that’s suited to your skin type. For example, you should use a lighter product for oily or combination skin, and a richer cream for dry skin. If you don’t know your skin type, go to your Jean Coutu store to have one of our cosmeticians assists you.

Friendly advice: To get the full benefits of a serum, apply it before your day cream.

3

Use sunscreen every time you go outside.

Dermatologists are unanimous on this one: prolonged exposure to the sun’s rays is damaging to unprotected skin. Among other effects, it can contribute to skin aging (age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, etc.).

Choose sunscreen that has UVA and UVB protection and is right for your skin type. Products with SPF 30 and above are the most effective

4

Apply night cream every evening.

Skin cells repair and renew themselves while you’re sleeping, making them better at absorbing active ingredients. Night cream is a great way to deeply nourish and revitalize skin while fighting fine lines and wrinkles.

Because skin aging begins in your mid-twenties, it’s recommended to begin using night cream.

Friendly advice: Apply serum before your night cream to boost its effectiveness.

5

Exfoliate 2-3 times a week.

Dead skin cells accumulate at the surface of the skin, preventing it from breathing properly and leading to an uneven skin tone. That’s why exfoliation is a crucial step for keeping skin soft and clean.

Exfoliant can be mechanical (microbeads, crushed fruit seeds, loofah, natural fibre bath mitt, etc.) or chemical (salicylic acid, retinol, fruit enzymes, etc.). Exfoliate using small, circular motions to stimulate circulation and improve skin’s vitality.

6

Use a mask once to twice times a week.

There are lots of different masks available at your Jean Coutu store. Depending on their ingredients, they may have purifying, nourishing, calming, hydrating or firming properties.

For a mask to be beneficial, it must be suited to your skin type. Clay masks are best for oily skin, as they absorb sebum and tighten pores, while gel masks are ideal for dehydrated or sensitive skin.

Friendly advice: Clean, exfoliate and dry your skin before applying your mask.

7

Fight cellulite and stretch marks.

There is no magic potion to get rid of cellulite and stretch marks. To avoid developing these unsightly imperfections, be sure to:

  • eat healthy
  • get enough exercise
  • avoid rapid weight loss or gain
  • drink enough water
  • moisturize your skin (cream, lotion, etc.)
  • avoid smoking

Use anti-cellulite cream and a loofah or natural fibre glove to improve the appearance of cellulite-prone areas. Apply skin repairing cream to diminish the look of stretch marks.
