What is it?
No surprises here: it’s oil formulated for use on the face. It can be pure or composed of a blend of synthetic oils, vegetable oils and essential oils.
Why use oil for my face?
Unlike your body’s oils, face oil is often finer and non-comedogenic. Contrary to creams that have a more difficult time penetrating the skin, oils deeply nourish and hydrate all of the skin’s layers. Loaded with vitamins and bursting with benefits, it’s not surprising that face oils, while once underestimated, are gaining in popularity and are now a key part of many women’s beauty routines.
Who should use it?
Despite what you may think, face oils are suitable for all skin types. Oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin or mature skin—simply find the oil formulated for your skin’s needs, whether balancing, repairing, regenerating, anti-aging, etc.
Here are some ingredients to look for according to your skin type:
Oily skin: opt for non-greasy oils like jojoba, lemon, geranium or macadamia.
Dry skin: we suggest olive, argan, Damask rose or wheat germ oil.
Mature skin: prevent skin aging with rosehip oil.
Acne-prone skin: we suggest tea tree oil, which can help treat skin conditions.
How do I apply it correctly?
Careful: to avoid unpleasant surprises, test the oil on the inside of your elbow first to make sure you are not allergic.
- Face oil can be used in various ways: on its own as a moisturizing treatment before going to bed, or as a serum underneath your moisturizer. You can even add a drop or two into your moisturizer.
- Since oils do not contain water (unlike creams) it’s preferable to apply them immediately after cleansing to skin that is still damp, in order to retain moisture.
- Apply the recommended quantity of oil to your skin—usually two or three drops. Using too much oil may clog your pores and result in the appearance of pimples.
- Delicately massage the oil into your face and neck, moving outwards, and finish with light upward lifting motions to combat sagging.
