School photo: Get them ready!

It may not seem like much, but posing for a school photo is not easy. It requires concentration and a few tricks. But with a little practice, anything is possible. Use the spare time you have during summer vacation to play with your children and teach them how to be more photogenic! Family time and lots of giggles guaranteed.

Having fun with the kids

A school photo is an important moment in your child’s school life. However, preparing for this special moment and listening to instructions from an adult without losing interest can be a difficult, even stressful, task for a child, especially a younger one. On the other hand, if you give them enough time to prepare, it could become a fun activity for your kid. So give your child one mission: relax on photo day.

Well dressed

The first step is to pick out their outfit. Unless school requires a uniform, ask your child to help you pick out his or her best outfit to wear for the school picture, the idea being that your little one is as relaxed and confident as possible. Try to guide him or her towards something that isn’t too loud or loopy.

Well styled

Hair is also important. Take advantage of your summer vacation to test out a new haircut or style that your child will like. If your kid has a cool hairstyle that he or she feels comfortable with, chances are that your child will be more grounded and focused on photo day.

Well seated

Most of the time it’s the photographer’s role to correctly place kids in front of the camera, with the tallest standing at the back or sitting in the front row. But if your child gets to choose, the best place for them to be is front and centre. Play around at home with group photos with close or extended family. Mention to your child that the best place to be is the middle. That way, he or she won’t forget, come the big day.

Focused

Staying focused and making sure to follow instructions given by the photographer and teacher is the golden rule for getting a perfect school photo every time. Again, teach your child this rule through play. Invent funny instructions and have him or her follow them closely. With a few laughs, you can achieve a lot.

The right approach

Your child will need to adopt the right pose before the photographer takes a picture. Play around until you find the right pose and, above all, the right attitude to adopt on the day. Find one where your kid is relaxed and confident.

The right smile

The final step, right before the click: smile! Very often, children tend to smile in a forced or stiff manner, which can end up looking like they’re grimacing. To get them to flash those pearly whites naturally, the trick is to make them laugh. Tell them a funny story then ask them to remember it just before the photographer takes their photo. Relaxed and laughing, your child is sure to produce a world-class natural smile for their school photo.
