Fall is just around the corner and along with the changing seasons comes a new nail art trend! This fall get ready for the two-finish technique, combining matte and glossy finishes on the same nail. This play on colours and textures makes for a distinctly avant-garde look. All you need is a matte and a glossy nail polish—don’t be afraid to mix and match shades with textures.
Good to know: For visible contrast between the two textures, choose darker hues that normally trend in the fall, like black, grey, blue and burgundy.
All bi-design manicures should begin with applying a base coat to protect your nails. This will allow the polish to properly adhere and protect from staining. Once the base coat is dry, apply two coats of the deep shade of your choice. Wait for the polish to fully dry before unleashing your creative genius.

After completing the preceding steps, apply a protective gloss over the entire surface of the nail. This product, better known as a top coat, will stop polish from cracking, but may also change its texture! Your top coat will give whatever dark shade you choose a lustrous look. When the coat is dry, design a checker pattern using very thin strips of adhesive tape. Then apply a matte top coat to your nails. After 15 minutes or so, remove the strips for an elegant criss-cross effect.

Want a little extra gala-worthy glam? After the first two steps, add a matte top coat. Then trace a half-moon shape with ultra-glitter nail polish on the sides of the nail and add a gel effect top coat to really bring out the shine. Play with colours and use a different shade of glitter for each nail.
