This spring’s top hairstyle trends

Reinvented buns, French braids, the sleek look, stylized accessories… Here are some hairstyle trends that were recently featured at renowned fashion shows.

1

The twisted ponytail

What it is: Seen at J.W. Anderson, Public School and Paul Smith, the twisted ponytail is the most popular simple and sporty hair style.

Directions: After using a texturizing spray on damp hair, dry your hair while pulling your locks back with a flat brush. Then tie a ponytail above your neck and separate it into two equal parts. Roll each part onto itself and twist them together. Finish by applying a shine boosting hairspray.

We suggest: Fructis Texturizing Spray

The classic headband

What it is: If the styles featured at the Akris, agnès b. and Orla Kiely fashion shows are any indication, the wide headband is back in style!

Directions: There are two ways to wear a classic headband this spring: 1) wear it on the top of your head over loose, sleek hair parted in the middle; 2) wear it over your forehead, over locks that are sleeked back with four clips and tied in a low bun.

We suggest: Goody Ouchless comfort fit headband

Boxer braids

What it is: Mariella Burani, Desigual, Giles… Models at several fashion shows donned two or more  French braids on the runway. It’s no wonder then that many celebrities quickly adopted this feminine, modern hairstyle!

Directions: Start by applying a bit of styling cream on damp hair, then dry using a diffuser, head down, to add texture and bounce. Separate your hair into two equal parts before braiding them. Tie the ends with clear elastics.

We suggest: John Frieda Unwind Curls Calming Crème

The sleek look

What it is: Beach waves have been popular on runways for several seasons, but now ultra sleek hair has become one of the trendiest styles. The proof? The look was featured at fashion shows by DKNY, Erdem and Givenchy.

Directions: After washing your hair with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner, apply a few drops of anti-frizz serum on damp hair. Then dry your locks with a blow dryer and a large round brush. Finally, use a ceramic flat iron on your tips.

We suggest: TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum

The quick knot

What it is: Say hello to your new favourite style: the imperfect perfect knot. Easy to achieve, it has been featured on runways by Etro, Vivienne Westwood and Bottega Veneta. It’s a perfect combination of boldness and charm.

Directions: Once your hair washed and lightly ruffled with a towel, spend a few moments with a blow dryer. Then delicately untangle your locks using an anti-frizz brush to eliminate static and soften your hair. Finally, tie into a ponytail and create a tussled “knot”.

The low bun

What it is: Greg Lauren, Daniela Gregis and Marchesa: three of the most beautiful fashion runways that featured the low ballerina bun.

Directions: Perfectly sleek, wavy, thick, fuzzy or cottony, the low bun goes well with any type of hair. The most important step is to keep it in place with a solid, thick elastic, several flat hair clips and a veil of long-hold hairspray.

We suggest: Nexxus Comb Thru Touchable Hold Finishing Mist
