Dry Shampoo: some surprising uses

We love how it mattifies our roots, but a dry shampoo also has an arsenal of secret uses. So grab your fave product and make the most of your hairstyling sessions, one spritz at a time.

Revive droopy bangs

As any beauty blogger will tell you: you need an armload of patience (and styling tools) when you decide to wear bangs. Smack dab on your forehead, these strands absorb sebum and impurities from your face. The result? Bangs that are stringy, greasy and limp. Not what we’d call sexy. So grab a hold of your dry shampoo and zap that grease zone from about 10 centimetres away. The oil-absorbing powder will add body and bounce to your locks.

Give your hair a rebel air

For several seasons now, the runway has been dominated by big wavy curls. To get this look, curl your hair with an iron of any thickness. The wider the barrel, the looser your curls will be. Once the curls have set and cooled, pass your fingers through them to break them up, then flip your hair over and plump up your curls by spritzing them with a dry shampoo. Goodbye timid locks, hello wild volume.

Plump up a ponytail

You can add body and attitude to a ponytail by spraying it with a dry shampoo. Attach your hair at the base of your neck with an elastic band, then spritz the tail once or twice. Next, tousle your tresses by twirling a couple of strands around your fingers for a “wild” textured look. The real beauty in all this? It will last all day, so you can skip the hairspray.

Hold onto your hairpins

This one is a stylist’s best kept secret. When you opt for an updo or simply want to keep your hair out of your face, spritz a little dry shampoo onto your bobby pin. This lightning quick trick will give the pins better grip and stop them from sliding out of your hair. Easy, economical, ingenious. What more could you ask for?

Add body to your braids

Anyone who’s ever tried braiding freshly washed hair will get this next dry shampoo trick. When braiding hair that’s too fine or too clean, the strands slide off each other and defy all efforts at control. In no time, we end up with a flat, frazzled braid.

To add body, volume and pizzazz to your tresses, spray the lengths of your braid with a dry shampoo. The mattifying powder will add grip to your hair and prevent the strands from slipping. In just two seconds and three easy moves, you’ll have a thicker, fuller braid that stays put!
