What is your makeup routine?
The only thing I love on my skin is concealer. When it comes to concealers, I’ve tried them all and I change what I use every month. These days, I love the concealer made by NYX.
The best tip you’ve learned from a makeup artist?
I’d never used foundation illuminator until last year! But I’ve now fallen in love with these microscopic pearls that brighten certain features on my face. I alternate between the liquid versions of Magic Lumi by L’Oréal Paris and a champagne-coloured powder by NYX.
You always carry in your purse…
Two or three lip balms and I always have Xtension Plus mascara by Marcelle – perfect for touch ups – and a bunch of lipsticks. These days, I love TwistUp by Annabelle, especially the Monroe shade.
What is beauty to you?For years, I thought that beauty was a well-kept appearance: skin, makeup, eyes, hairstyle, nails.
But since I’ve fallen in love and now feel fulfilled, I’m often told I am beautiful. And yet, I look the same. So yes, my vision of beauty has changed because now I know that it has a lot to do with how you feel on the inside.
The song you keep playing on repeat: Polaroid, by Alex Nevsky, because it reminds me of summer fragrances and warm days that are almost at an end.
Your favourite Netflix series: I’ve been binge watching Chelsea Does. She’s inspired me for one of my upcoming projects… More details soon!

What you are currently reading: I know I’m late, but I’ve recently fallen in love with Vi by Kim Thúy. This is a novel full of hope and contradictions… It’s beautiful and simply makes you feel good.
When you played Alana Bloom (Hannibal) and Chloé Vincent (Blue Moon), you showcased a darker and more intense persona to your acting, but you’ve got such a positive and uplifting personality in your everyday life. How do you play with this duality?
This dichotomy is part of me, and people close to me know this well. There are lighter and darker sides within each of us and, as actors, we are called upon to understand these darker areas so we can rely on them when acting.
Always in the spirit of duality, we’ve seen you with natural-looking makeup that’s quite simple and we’ve seen you with well-defined purple lips. How would you describe the beauty routine of these “two Carolines”?
I don’t have a specific makeup routine, I go with how I feel and what I’ve got planned. It’s the same thing for my clothes, my sense of style is pretty eclectic! When it comes to my must-haves,
I love the Eternal Kiss shade of Lise Watier’s Baiser Velour matte liquid lipstick. Every time I wear it I’m always asked where it comes from. It’s a bright shade with a light pigment and exceptionally moisturizing texture.
What you are currently reading: Deux jours de vertige by Eveline Mailhot.
The song you keep playing on repeat: As We Enter by Nas and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.
Your favourite app: Transit. I’m a member of Communauto and I use public transit so it’s very practical!
Your favourite Netflix series: It’s not on Netflix, but I love Twin Peaks.
The weirdest thing in your purse: I keep photos of my mother and me that we took in a photo booth when I was young. We’re making a bunch of different facial expressions, channeling our inner actors!
How has your vision of beauty changed over the last few years?
I’ve learned to find a balance between the “glamour/red carpet” girl who is supported by an entire beauty team, and the everyday girl, who loves the simple and natural look. I don’t want to care about what people think. I like to believe that what makes me stand out is my energy, my personality and my authenticity.
Your favourite cream… : I’ve loved the Hydrabio line for a long time because it’s perfectly adapted to my skin. Every time I apply it, I feel like I’m pampering my skin without irritating it.
Blush : I have a whole collection of them and this is the most important item in my makeup kit! I can have flawless makeup on my eyes but if my complexion looks dull, that doesn’t reflect my personality.
Pupa lipstick and gloss : Those who know me are aware that I adore these products! I love their texture, colour, smell! Miss PUPA 3000 is the one I use every day. It’s a pink subtle shade that also moisturizes my lips.
Lip balm! As simple as that. I can’t leave home without it because I apply it several times a day. I’m completely addicted.
I’d say to create points of light. There are so many products designed to create a shimmering effect on specific areas of the face. It boosts the complexion and will make it appear healthier.
What you are currently reading: Hosting Salut, bonjour! week-end during the summer allows me to talk about literature every week and to get great suggestions! Right now, I’m reading Ne t’éloigne pas by Harlan Coban. A thriller!
The song you keep playing on repeat: Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake, of course! And Don’t Be So Shyby Imany, because it reminds me of my trip to Corsica last May. We toured the island in a car while singing this hit!
Your favourite app: Not because it’s new, but because I’m currently redoing my living room, I spend a lot of time on Houzz looking for the perfect solution!
Favourite Netflix series: I can’t wait for the next season of House of Cards!
What is beauty for you?
“Beauty is an attitude” is my everyday motto. There’s nothing more beautiful than feeling good about yourself and embracing your differences.
As a teenager, I was worried about my appearance, just like any other young girl around me. As I got older, I learned to love my differences and turn them into a strength that I rely on every day, whether on stage or in my personal life.
Use layers of mascara to get spectacular results. I often use my Lash Launcher mascara by Annabelle to lengthen my lashes, then I add a layer of my favourite mascara, Outlash by Annabelle again, to make my lashes more voluminous and thicker.
Your favourite app: Boomerang.
You always carry in your purse: My cellphone, my wallet, my Skiny Brow Liner – perfect for filling out my eyebrows with precision – and my lip pencil TwistUp both by Annabelle.
The only thing I like to wear on my skin is concealer. I’ve never worn foundation. And as far as concealers go, I’ve tried them all and I change brands every month. Right now, I’m hooked on NYX’s concealer.
What’s the best trick you’ve picked up from a makeup artist?
Up until last year, I’d never tried using an illuminator! But ever since I discovered these microscopic sparkles that allow me to enhance certain facial features, I’m totally head over heels. I alternate between the liquid Magic Lumi, from L’Oréal Paris, and NYX’s Champagne Radiant Finishing Powder.
In your purse, you always carry…
Two or three lip balms, but I also always have Xtension Plus Mascara from Marcelle—perfect for touch-ups—and several lipsticks. These days, I really like TwistUp from Annabelle, especially in the Monroe shade.
For you, beauty is...?For years, I had the impression that beauty meant having a well-kept appearance: skin, makeup eyes, hair, nails.
But ever since I fell in love and feel fulfilled, I’ve never had so many people tell me that I’m beautiful. But I look the same. So yes, my vision of beauty has changed, because now I understand that it really comes down to feeling good about yourself.
Your favourite song right now: Polaroid, by Alex Nevsky, because it reminds me of the smell of summer and hot days gently fading away.
On Netflix, you’re watching: Chelsea Does, on repeat. She even inspired me to take up a personal project... more to come!
Where do you like to go for happy hour? Cul-sec, on Beaubien in Montreal. I go for the excellent natural wines, tasty food and good company. Shout out to Martin Juneau! ;)
Your favourite book right now: I know, it’s a bit late to jump on the bandwagon, but I recently fell in love with Vi by Kim Thúy. This novel is so full of hope and contradictions… it’s beautiful and just feels good to read.
In your roles as Alana Bloom (Hannibal) and Chloé Vincent (Blue Moon), we discovered a very dark and intense side to you, while in reality you’re quite gentle and have a real glow about you. Where does this duality come from?
The duality is a part of me, really, as my close friends and family can attest. We all have a dark and light side and, as actors, we learn how to recognize our dark side and use it on screen.
Keeping to this idea of duality, we can picture you just as easily wearing very simple, natural makeup, as we can with flashy, bright lipstick. How would you describe the beauty routines of these “two Carolines”?
I don’t really have a makeup routine. I just go according to my mood and what I’m up to. The same goes for clothing. My style really varies! But as for must-haves,
I love the Eternal Kiss shade of Lise Watier’s Baiser Velours matte liquid lipstick. Every time I wear it people ask me where I got it. I also adore the Charlotte shade of Lise Watier’s Rouge Fondant Suprême. The luminous tone is perfect, the pigment is light and its texture is super hydrating.
Your favourite book right now: Deux jours de vertige, by Eveline Mailhot.
Your favourite song right now: As We Enter, by Nas and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.
Your favourite app right now: Transit. I get around with Communauto and public transit, so it’s really handy!
On Netflix, you’re watching: It’s not on Netflix, but I love Twin Peaks.
The strangest thing you keep in your purse: I carry around photos of my mom and me that we took at a photo booth when I was little. We’re making all sorts of facial expressions—real actors at work!
How has your vision of beauty changed over the years?
I’ve learned to find the balance between the “glamorous, red carpet” girl, with her entire beauty team, and the everyday girl, who is simple and natural. I’m not interested in worrying about what other people think. I like to believe that people notice my energy, personality and authenticity first.
Lip balm! Just as simple as that. I never leave home without it, and I reapply it several times throughout the day. I’m totally hooked!
I’d probably say using light spots. Today, there are tons of products designed to add some shimmer to specific areas of the face. It wakes up your look for a healthier appearance.

The area around the eye tends to age quicker. Why? Because it’s the thinnest part of the face, and as such requires special attention. Check out our guide for techniques and products to care for this sensitive area.
You’ve heard it before: the eye contour area is the thinnest area of your face. In fact, it’s 5 to 10 times less dense than other parts. But that doesn’t mean it’s less used! On the contrary—the average person blinks and contracts this area 10,000 times a day, making it more fragile and easily irritable.
That’s why it’s so important to use specially designed creams in this area; products that are less rich, draining, absorb quicker and specifically formulated to fight crow’s feet, dark circles and bags. You’ll avoid tingling, tears and those little white bumps that can appear if the pores are blocked by too much oil.
How should you apply your cream? Never directly to your eyelid, because the product could penetrate and irritate your eyes. Instead, spread out the cream with a tapping motion on the bone around the eye, from the corner up to the brow line. This way, you’ll help your product penetrate the skin, while stimulating blood circulation. Careful! If you apply the cream too close to the eye, you could end up with bags, which aren’t very glamorous!
The area around your eyes ages faster than the rest of your face. Why? Because it’s the region with the thinnest skin. Therefore, it’s an area that needs special care.
The contour of your eyes has delicate skin that is 5 to 10 times thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. And yet we blink and contract that area up to 10,000 times a day! It’s a fragile area that can quickly become irritated.
That’s why it’s so important to use products that are specifically designed for that region: lighter products that are quickly absorbed by the skin to firm it and formulated with ingredients to fight crow’s feet, bags and dark circles. That way you’ll avoid an unpleasant tingling sensation, tears and the small white blisters that can appear if the pores become clogged with oils.
How should you apply these products? Never directly on your eyelids since the product could penetrate into your eyes and irritate them. Instead, use your finger to dab it onto the bone around your eyes, from the inner corner to the eyebrow arch. But be careful, if you apply the product too close to the eyes, you could cause bags to appear.

Check out Zac Posen or Rodarte, and you’ll find dark lips everywhere. Wear your black lips with a super bright complexion and very subtle eye makeup.
Whether at Zac Posen or Rodarte, dark, black lips were everywhere. Combine them with a bright complexion and discreet eye makeup.
At this age, anything is possible, says Virginie. Wear your lips dark with a very shiny, vinyl-like texture. And since you don’t yet have wrinkles or fine lines at 20, dark and creamy colours aren’t likely to run. Apply the product directly to your lips, no matter how intense it is.
Here, you mainly want to combat your first wrinkles. Opt for a matte lipstick—not only is it extremely on-trend, but it’s also long-lasting. Apply the stick directly to your lips, or brush on for more accuracy.
After 50, this trend is slightly more difficult to pull off, says Virginie. With time, our lips lose volume and dark colours tend to make you look more severe. Also, with the wrinkles around your mouth, dark colours tend to run. Prepare your lips with a lip primer then apply a waterproof pencil over your entire mouth. Next, apply a coloured balm that will add light and shape to the lips thanks to its shiny texture.
Anything is possible at this age, says Virginie. You can opt for this trend as is with a very shiny lip texture that is reminiscent of vinyl. You can apply the product directly on your lips, no matter how dark it is.
At this age, you’ll mainly want to conceal your first wrinkles. Choose a trendy lipstick that offers long hold. Apply it directly with the stick or use a brush for more precision.
As we age, our lips lose their volume and darker colours can exacerbate this problem. Dark shades also tend to settle into the fine lines around the mouth. You’ll want to prepare your lips with a lip base and a waterproof pencil that you’ll apply everywhere on your lips. Then, use a coloured balm that will add light and plump to your lips with its shiny texture.
Models for Stella McCartney, Courrèges and Giambatista Valli have all been spotted with an extravagant silver touch. While it’s been spotted on brows and lips, we prefer it directly on the eyelid in these three versions.
Seen at Stella McCartney, Courrèges and Giambatista Valli, a touch of silver is synonymous with folly. Although we’ve seen it under eyebrows and on lips, we prefer it directly on the eyelids.
At 20, play with glitter for a total look. Start by darkening the base of the lashes with a dark eyeshadow. Next, press the glitter onto the centre of the upper eyelid with your finger. In our case, we’re using very delicate glitter that creates an almost wet effect.
At 35, go for a subtle silver look. Use a trio of hazy colours with different greys. With a moist brush, choose a medium shade and apply it to the lash line, like a liner. Don’t worry about being too precise! Finish with a touch of white on the inside corner of the eye for a pop of colour.
Here, you’ll want to pay close attention to the texture of your product. For maximum hydration, select a cream-to-powder eyeshadow. This won’t dry out the skin and will hold much longer. Apply this super silky cream to the inside corner of the eye and opposite the iris for a silver reflection.
At 20, you can play with the glittery effect. Start by darkening the base of your lashes with a dark eyeshadow. Then, use your fingers to add glitter in the middle of the upper eyelid. In this case, a very delicate glitter that will create a wet look.
At 35, you’ll want to create a soft silver look. Use three airy colours that include grey undertones. With a damp brush, pick a medium shade and apply it on your eyelash root, just like you would a liner. No need for precision! Finish it up with a touch of white in the inner corner of your eye for a colour that pops!
You’ll want to pay close attention to the texture of the product you use. To moisturize your skin, select a powder cream eyeshadow. Apply this silky cream in the inner corner of your eye, level with your iris, for a silvery shine.
While intimidating at first glance, this new smoky eye has a “morning after” look to it. Forget the perfect grey gradient and go for Givenchy’s more punk version.
It might seem intimidating at first, but this new smoky eye reminds us of the day after a party. Forget about the perfect grey gradient and get this punk version that was recently seen at Givenchy.
Take this trend to the extreme with a creamy, shiny version of this look. Choose a cream eyeshadow and apply it coarsely to the lash roots, brushing outwards for a tapered look.
At 35, you want to go for a gentler look with your makeup. Start with a rich dark brown pencil and apply it to the upper and lower lash roots. Next, intensify the colour with a charcoal eyeshadow, pressing it quickly on top of the brown liner, without completely concealing it. The brown will add nuance to the line and a touch of light to your look.
At 50, you want to go for a more sophisticated smoky eye. Apply makeup to your upper eyelid only, to lift your look rather than weigh it down. Use a black gel (very resistant to running!) on your lash roots and shade in with your finger. Next, colour the inner part of the eye, concentrating on the upper area only.
You can go all out with this trend with a shiny and creamy version. Choose a cream eyeshadow and apply it at the root of your lashes in an imprecise manner. Extend the colour towards the outer corner of your eye for a sleeker shape.
At 35, you want a softer makeup look. Start with a thick dark brown pencil and draw a line at the root of your upper and lower eyelashes. Then, add intensity to the colour with a charcoal eyeshadow that you’ll quickly apply over the roots, without concealing them completely. The brown will add some nuance to the line and a touch of light to your eyes.
At 50, you want a more sophisticated version of the smoky eye. Apply makeup on the upper eyelid only. This will lift your eyes instead of weighing them down. Apply a deep black gel (which is smudge-proof) on the root of your lashes and use your fingers to blur it. Add colour to the inner corner of your eye and focus exclusively on the upper part.
Wearing glasses creates shadows under the eyes where the frame meets the skin. To remedy this, use concealer to hide these dark zones under your eyes. Make sure to use a liquid product that will moisturize your skin.
Virginie suggests moisturizing the contour of your eyes before you reach for your makeup. Apply the concealer not only under the eyes, but in a triangle shape that points towards the middle of your cheek. As an extra tip, give your look long-lasting hold by using a very fine clear powder that won’t create spots that look uneven under the magnifying effect of your lenses.
Many women believe you shouldn’t apply brow makeup if you wear glasses, as they’re worried it will make their features too severe. On the contrary! Play with the lines of your glasses and face, highlighting your look with defined brows.
To balance out the intensity of your look, apply some natural blush to your cheeks to create dimension and a lifting effect. Using a blush brush, apply most of the colour to the side of your cheek, then sweep the line up toward your temple. And be sure to shade in lines that are too heavy!
There are some basic rules to follow when you want to apply makeup and wear glasses. First off, you need to brighten the areas that are hidden by shadows caused by your frames. Apply a bit of champagne coloured eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eye and above and under the iris.
Second, forget about thick pencil lines. Because eyeliner will make your upper eyelid appear smaller, only use a pencil on the upper eyelash root in the inner corner of your eye. In addition to intensifying your gaze, this technique will also make your lashes look thicker.
Finally, when it comes to mascara, Virginie’s advice is to focus on a volumizing product, not one that will lengthen your lashes because that could cause them to bump into your lenses. Women with long lower lashes should also avoid mascara, because that could create more shadows under their eyes.
Many factors can cause hypersensitive skin. While some people are born with a fragile epidermis, others can simply change their lifestyle and hygiene routine to reduce the discomforts associated with delicate skin.
Many factors can cause hypersensitive skin. If some people are born with delicate skin, others can change their routine or lifestyle to reduce the discomfort caused by delicate skin.
The first thing to keep in mind when you have sensitive skin is you need to be gentle. Fragile skin will quickly react to external aggressions so make sure you care for your skin with the right routine. Avoid aggressively cleaning it or harshly putting on and taking off your makeup. Opt for delicate, yet precise, actions by using your fingertips. Your skin will thank you.

Don’t be aggressive when cleaning your skin, applying your makeup or removing it. Use soft, yet precise, strokes with your fingertips. Your skin will thank you.
Are products that are geared for people with sensitive skin simply a marketing tactic? Rest assured that is not the case. Sensitive skin needs a simple, yet efficient routine. Use products that have been tested on delicate skin. You can also opt for brands that are specialized in treating sensitive skin. A simple trip to your Jean Coutu store will convince you that there are solutions for every problem… and budget!

Even though it can be a great way to relax, a hot bath can irritate your skin. In fact, the water’s heat can strip the skin of its natural protective oils, making it more likely to become irritated, produce red spots or become dehydrated. Opt for lukewarm showers and baths and then use a good moisturizer.
Although they can be extremely relaxing, long hot baths can damage your skin. In fact, the hot temperature of the water tends to rob the skin of its natural protective oils, making it prone to irritation, inflammation, dryness and dehydration.

We love pampering ourselves with home spa treatments. Masks, scrubs and peels can make us feel revitalized and refreshed. But anyone with sensitive skin should refrain from going overboard. Stick to one or two treatments a month, instead of every week.
We all love pampering our skin with at-home spa sessions with masks, scrubs or peels that promise to revitalize the skin. However, without sweeping them all aside, anyone with sensitive skin should only use these products once or twice a month, contrary to the popular belief that this should be a weekly treatment.

May those who’ve never covered up a pimple in a photo cast the first stone. Admit it, you’ve got to love apps that allow you to touch up your selfies before posting them on social networks. The good news? You can now copy the effects of your favourite filters by “blurring” your makeup.
May the person who has never blurred a pimple on a selfir cast the first stone. We admit it, we love apps that let us enhance our selfies before publishing them on social media. And now it’s possible to recreate this effect with blur makeup.
Based on light reflection technology, “blurring” products are formulated with “super micro tiny” pigments that bounce back light in all directions, reducing the clarity of pores and imperfections. The result? The skin looks blurred or “cloudy,” as if the eye was out of focus. Imperfections are therefore obscured and wrinkles, dark spots and pimples (almost) disappear.

Although the blurring, or soft focus, effect is generally used to even out the complexion, we love adapting this technique to improve our lips. Without necessarily resorting to a blur effect, we like using a blurry red to smudge the lines around our mouth.
While the blurring or soft focus trend is mostly used to unify the complexion, it also works for lips. Without necessarily erasing imperfections, you can shade in the edges of your mouth with a blurry lip pencil.
Lip Studio Color Blur in Partner in Crimson, from Maybelline
Inspired by Japan and its fashion influence, Rita Remark, global nail artist for Essie, created this modern, on-trend tricolour style. We love the clean lines and fun touch of blue on the nail’s half-moon.
Using Essie’s Go Go Geisha shade, create a classic French manicure following the nail’s white tip.
With a manicure guide or with your hand raised, create another arch at the very end of the nail, in Essie’s Kimono Over shade.
Using a nail art guide, or again with your hand raised, paint a powder blue circle at the root of the nail, right in the centre of the half-moon. Rita’s favourite colour for this? Udon Know Me, from Essie’s fall collection.
Complete this flashy style with a top coat.
Designed by Madeline Poole, Sally Hansen’s global colour ambassador, this manicure is perfect for the office with its subtle tones, but is also great to wear out with friends.
Apply two coats of Miracle Gel Greyfitti from Sally Hansen to the entire nail.
Using a nail guide, create stencils on the nails in random geometric shapes.
Fill in the shapes with a darker shade. For this style, Madeline loves Miracle Gel Slate-r Girl from Sally Hansen.
For a beautiful glossy finish and to activate the previously applied gels, apply a coat of Miracle Gel top coat activator.
Feeling bold? This daring manicure could easily be inspired by a Mondrian painting. Pink, khaki and golden, it allows you to dip a toe into the new season without having to dive right in. We love its metallic accent, which you can achieve with nail jewellery or golden polish.
On bare nails, use nail guides and begin by applying the lightest colour, in this case Blanc de Lune from L’Oréal Paris.
Apply two coats of this colour, allowing it to properly dry between each coat. Next, remove the guides.
Repeat the first two steps for the next two colours. We’re using Vert Absinthe and Café de Nuit, both from L’Oréal Paris. Feel free to apply coloured squares on top.
Finish your manicure with a golden nail jewellery or with a sticker that you will randomly place on each of your 10 nails.

Hydrate your locks again, and again, and again! Curly hair needs constant hydration. As the hair is dry and fragile—due to its lack of lipids and spiral shape—it needs to be nourished with ultra-hydrating care that repairs and protects.
Since curly hair is usually dry, you should only use shampoo twice a week.. Opt for gentle, sulfate- and silicone-free products.
You will rinse your hair in cold water. Cold water makes the scales in the fibre smooth, making your locks soft and giving them shine.
Use the right products, meaning styling products formulated for curly hair, which you apply while your hair is still very damp. Water allows the formula to evenly spread out from root to tip.
Obey the golden rule for hair drying:. No hair dryer (or use it very sparingly!), since hot air damages hair. If you just can’t go without your hair dryer, use a diffuser with warm air. Target the roots and let the strands air dry.
