What happens exactly?
Menopause affects your epidermis in a number of ways. In its early stages, menopause causes a considerable decrease in DHEA, also known as the youth hormone, as well as in collagen and elastin, two proteins responsible for the density and elasticity of your skin. As a result, the skin appears looser, particularly around the neck, cheekbones and jaw line. Next, there’s a reduction in fat cells. In the end, your skin loses more than half of its fatty acids, becoming dryer and darker. It also becomes thinner and weaker, causing more lines, wrinkles and dark spots to appear.
What can you do to cope? Adapting your skincare routine is a pretty good start!
