Men: the 10 commandments of hair removal

Men are increasingly getting rid of their unwanted body hair. If you’re one of them, here are 10 rules to follow!

1

PREPARE YOUR SKIN PROPERLY BEFORE HAIR REMOVAL.

Cleaning and exfoliating the areas you’ll be removing hair from rids your skin of impurities and dead cells—essential for preventing ingrown hairs! An added bonus is that clean hair is easier for hair-removal products to grip, making the experience less painful.

2

DON’T OVER DO IT WITH YOUR EYEBROWS.

Follow these three rules to avoid making an irreparable mistake:

  • Removing hair from the central area between your two brows. Where should you stop? Trace an imaginary line from the inner corner of your eye and remove only the hairs that go beyond it.
  • Always remove hair from the bottom of the brows (never touch the upper part!), removing only the hairs that are too close to your eyelids and NOTHING MORE.
  • Using small scissors, cut away any hairs that go beyond that point and NOTHING MORE.
DON’T OVER DO IT WITH YOUR EYEBROWS.

3

ALWAYS TEST A DEPILATORY CREAM BEFORE USING IT.

Start by testing it on a small area of your skin. If you have an allergic reaction (like redness or irritation), choose a formula for sensitive skin.

4

CHECK THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WAX BEFORE APPLYING IT.

If the wax is too hot, you can very seriously burn yourself, but if the wax is not hot enough, it will stick and be difficult to apply. We recommend an average temperature of 37° to 40° C.

If you don’t have a thermometer handy, apply a small amount of wax to the back of your hand: you should feel a tolerable amount of heat.

CHECK THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WAX BEFORE APPLYING IT.

5

MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN AFTER HAIR REMOVAL, NOT BEFORE.

The greasy texture of moisturizer prevents hair-removal products from adhering well to your skin. However, hair removal irritates the skin and makes it ultra-sensitive, so a nourishing moisturizer is essential afterward—it will also prevent ingrown hairs!

6

DON’T REMOVE HAIR ON THE SAME DAY AS AN IMPORTANT EVENT.

Weddings, interviews, beach parties—you don’t want to show up to events like these with red, irritated skin! Allow your skin 48 hours to return to its usual appearance.

7

AVOID SUN EXPOSURE AFTER HAIR REMOVAL.

Wait 24 hours! After hair removal, skin is very sensitive to UV rays and their effects (sunburn, pigment marks, etc.). If you absolutely must go out, use a sunscreen with a high SPF on the areas in question.

8

DON’T USE SCRUBS OR FRAGRANCES AFTER HAIR REMOVAL.

Fragile skin is sensitive to potentially irritating products.

9

DON’T WAIT TOO LONG BEFORE THE NEXT HAIR-REMOVAL SESSION.

The longer and thicker the hair, the more pain you’ll feel when removing it. Don’t suffer needlessly! Additionally, if you wait too long, you risk breaking the hair rather than removing it at the roots—which means you’ll have to do your next hair-removal session even sooner.

10

DON’T SHAVE BETWEEN HAIR-REMOVAL SESSIONS.

Hair removal thins the hair follicles and makes hair easier to remove. Conversely, shaving makes the new hair rougher and weaker, which can make it more painful and can result in swollen and infected pores.
