Makeup for sensitive skin

If your skin becomes red and irritated for no reason, reacts poorly to heat, dryness, cold, wind, or to the scent of certain creams, then it requires special care. Consider these tips for sensitive skin.

Why is your skin sensitive?

Due to a temporary or genetic condition, its protective barrier is weakened. As nerve endings are more exposed, they also become more active.

What are the symptoms of skin sensitivity?

Redness, itching, inflammation, dryness, burning, irritation... several signs can indicate sensitive skin!

What to do for your makeup?

  • Always opt for sensitive skin products, preferably those that have been tested under dermatological supervision.
  • Opt for light textures that do not obstruct the pores to allow the skin to breath.
  • Beware of any products containing chemical dyes and synthetic perfumes,as well as those containing parabens and fruit acids.
  • For your makeup products, choose hyperallergenic, non comedogenic and non-fat formulas that are rich in hydrating agents and in antioxydants.
  • Forget firming, lifting or anti-aging creams containing retinol and vitamin A – these elements are very irritating to sensitive skin.
  • Opt for mineral powders which are generally deprived of conserving agents and synthetic ingredients.
  • Remove your makeup every night even if you haven’t worn any; doing so removes any salt that may have accumulated during the day.
  • Use cotton swabs and a gentle makeup remover for sensitive skin.
  • Use pump bottles over small pots of cream to avoid any contact with the skin.
  • Store your products in a dry place, far from humidity and heat.
  • Clean brushes and sponges regularly, preferably after each use, to avoid accumulation of any bacteria.
  • Pay attention to expiry dates. The acronyms 3M, 6M and 12M (3 months, 6 months and 12 months, respectively) determine the lifespan of your products.
