tips for taming curly locks

Curly hair can sometimes be quite the handful. We have seven tips to help you tame your rebellious tresses. Next stop, perfect curls!

1Nourish
your hair.

Hydrating is the solution to many problems: headaches, dry skin—and frizzies. Ultra-moisturizing shampoo and conditioner help nourish and protect your locks, keeping frizz at bay. So as to not over dry your hair, washing it twice a week is ideal. And to perk up curls between washings, wetting and applying conditioner does the trick beautifully.

Choose products designed
with you in mind.

Using products and treatments made to show off curls is key. We pick products without sulphates or alcohol, which tend to dry out hair, and opt for mousses and serums that help us nail our ’do without weighing down our curls.

3Arm yourself with
the right styling tools.

When straightening your luscious locks, look for high-quality styling tools that allow you to control the temperature. Curly hair tends to be drier and more fragile, so it’s a good idea to use the lowest setting on hair dryers and straightening irons so as not to damage your tresses.

Begone,
hairbrushes!

To avoid the scarecrow look, and more importantly breakage, brushes should be outlawed at all costs. We prefer wide-toothed combs to untangle our locks when they are still wet, after washing and conditioning them.

5Overnight
curl pampering.

Nighttime is a great time to restore your locks. Apply a hydrating oil before going to bed and let it work its magic while you get your beauty rest. In the morning, go about your daily hair care routine as usual.

Tip: Wrapping your hair in an old T-shirt or towel will protect your pillowcase.

6Pick a cut
that suits you.

The right haircut is vital for keeping your curls’ shape, so finding one adapted to your texture and face is key. Refreshing the layers regularly helps too, especially if you have thick hair. A great mass of messy curls risks hiding your face, your eyes, your cheekbones—some of your loveliest features! A flattering cut will help your tresses look healthy and polished.

7Add dimension
to your locks.

Curly hair tends not to reflect light as much as straight hair. Highlights create dimension and prevent dullness. You can do them at home with a DIY kit or go to a salon if you’re less comfortable doing your own dye job. Whichever option you choose, you’ll have curls that dazzle with their shine and dimension!
