Beauty regime for pregnant women

With pregnancy often come beauty challenges, like the appearance of stretch marks and dark spots, never mind the hair loss that can occur after giving birth. Luckily, you can follow a beauty regime and use specific skincare products to help tackle these pesky problems.

1

Stretch marks

When you’re expecting, it’s normal to worry about stretch marks. The elastic fibres of your skin around certain parts of your body can fall prey to stretching. The result: striations resembling unsightly scars form around the belly and breasts. Though these lines don’t affect every mom-to-be, it’s better to be safe than sorry. You can nip stretch marks in the bud with specific skincare treatments during the first months of pregnancy, right up to the day you give birth, and even after.

Here are some great products to use morning and night to prevent the appearance of stretch marks, or to reduce them if they’ve already made their debut: Biotherm’s Biovergetures, Stretch Mark Control by Clarins, Stretch Mark Prevention oil and gel by Elancyl and Vichy’s Complete Action Anti-Stretch Mark Cream.

2

Skin darkening

Around the 16-week pregnancy mark, dark spots sometimes appear on the face, mostly around the cheekbone and forehead areas. The condition, referred to as “mask of pregnancy”, doesn’t affect all pregnant women, but the women it does affect will see spots either disappear progressively, or persist after giving birth. The result of hormonal changes brought on by pregnancy, these brown splotches, which can range from noticeable to hardly so, may become worse for women who expose themselves to the sun’s rays. That’s why it’s so important to use UV protection at all times, especially when expecting a child.

To prevent the appearance of dark spots, make sure you always use sunscreen with a high SPF, like La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 60. You can also use Vichy’s ProEVEN Brightening Cleansing Foam, a gentle and efficient cleanser that exfoliates, evens and brightens skin.
