Tips and secrets for flawless makeup

Bronzing powder and blush: combined, they offer the perfect recipe for an elegant look. Apply them sparingly using these tips!

Each one has its role to play

Bronzing powder is designed to add dimension to your face and emphasize certain features, not to darken your complexion. And blush is meant to add a fresh touch to complement the anti-fatigue effect of concealer and the glow of an illuminator, not to apply a colour to your face that doesn’t (and wouldn’t ever!) occur naturally.

The ABCs of bronzer

It’s often suggested that bronzer be applied in the shape of a 3, from the top of your forehead to the apple of your cheeks and down to your jaw. This is a good technique if you want to accentuate your jaw. Be sure you apply it below your jaw and not to the side of it, where there wouldn’t naturally be a shadow. If you don’t want to draw attention to your jaw, draw a half moon from the apple of your cheek to your temple and the top of your forehead.

The ABCs of bronzer

Be sure to use a large brush to apply it evenly. After tapping the brush to remove any excess powder, lightly apply the bronzer in a back and forth movement over the desired areas.

And now for the blush!

Use the same large brush and moderation to apply your blush. Start at the apple of your cheek and draw the brush outward or upward, depending on the shape of your face.

And now for the blush!

Not sure which direction is better for the shape of your face? If you follow an imaginary diagonal line between the outermost edge of your lips up toward the centre of your ear, you’re sure not to go wrong.

As for colours, translucent shades are best. Soft rose, peach and coral are all sure bets and are available in both subtle and more punchy shades that don’t run the risk of adding too much colour on top of your bronzing powder.

If you’re wearing illuminator, be sure to avoid very iridescent finishes: you want to have shine but not too much!
